Trails in this area are a mixture of different types of Forest Service Roads.
A beautiful valley with a lake, a river, forest service roads and atv trails in abundance. The area hosts a campground, and a picnic area. There are trails North, East, South and West of the trailhead.

Trail 224.1b provides a nice water crossing across Little Elk Creek.
Ghost towns in the area are mostly locations on the map. Little real evidence of history are seen at Spruce Ghost Town, Pratt’s Mill Ghost Town Este Ghost Town and Apex Ghost Town.
Red Gate Rock and White Gate Rock are two locations along the railroad used for distance by the engineer.

The 1970 National Christmas tree is just one of the historic places. Others include the August 1874 Custer Camp, and Nemo Cemetery.
Water features include Little Elk Creek, Dalton Lake, Reausaw Lake, and the Civilian Conservation Crop Dam.
For a short but interesting hike, try the Little Elk Creek trail.
AFTER A GREAT DAY OF RIDING, STAY AT THE CREEK – WHITETAIL CREEK RESORT.
The famous Forest Service “Case One” is the earliest attempt at federally managed forest utilization. Case One is the site of the F-3 Civilian Conservation camp.
Connecting rides include; Beaver Park Ride, Custer Peak Ride, Pilot Knob Ride, and Piedmont Ride.
There are no width restrictive trails on the Dalton Ride.
