(map showing approximate location of the ride, in the Black Hills)

A diverse set of trails, a diverse list of destinations and close to Hill City. The Summit System area of these trails, is used heavily and are open year round.

RALLY with us at that the STURGIS OFFROAD RALLY.

There are a number of historic gold mines in this area. Most require off-atv hiking. However, evidence of the mines are present at the site, making for great picture taking and visual enjoyment.

The White Horse Gulch Water Crossing is a nice feature worth visiting.

Old buildings to watch for include: Tin Queen Cabin, Spring Creek Road Cabin, and the old Tin Queen Cabin.

Ghost towns with none or little evidence remaining, include; Oblivion Ghost Town, and the Oreville Ghost Town.

A great place to stay to ride straight to the trails,  is MYSTIC HILLS HIDEAWAY RESORT.

A portion of 62″ Trail 6822 has over time become EXTREME. One foot and two foot boulders have been worked to the surface. If you come upon this spot and see the boulders as too EXTREME you might want to turn around. Except for this short, elevated area the trail is moderate.

AFTER A GREAT DAY OF RIDING, RELAX AT THE WHITETAIL CREEK RESORT CREEK-SIDE PAVILLION.

Historic mines in the area include: Eureka Mine, Hill City Mine, Tin Center Mine, Samelias Tin Mine and Tin Queen Mine. The Eureka Mine has an old mining road hiking trail to its location.

If you enjoy waterfalls, watch for Willow Creek Falls, and if you enjoy lakes watch for Sunday Gulch Lake and Mitchell Lake. Other natural features include Sylvan Peak and Medicine Mountain.

There are width restrictive trails in this area.

Connecting rides include: Gold Mountain Ride, Riley Hill Ride, and Tigerville Ride.

Parking for this area is at the old China Trailhead.

  1. The Black Hills have great ATV trails and Forest Service roads. I have traveled most of them. Our forest service roads are either road-like or trail-like. On my Favorite Rides pages, I have highlighted the many TRAIL-LIKE Forest Service Roads.

I put this website together to help others enjoy their ATV visit to South Dakota. When I ATV out of my state, I realize how difficult it is to plan a three day ride without good information. I hope my website will be good information for you.

Over 1000 visitors a month use this website. Let us know what you think about Black Hills atving!
