Some Black Hills trails are just fun to ride. These trails are in a location or navigate an area that helps the rider get close to the beauty of the Black Hills natural environment. Majestic trees, flowing waters, rocky outcrops, and hidden treasures are what makes a Black Hills ATV ride worth the effort. And if you get your fun from more challenging trails, the Merritt ATV 62″ Trails System is accessed by this trailhead.

RALLY with us at the STURGIS OFFROAD RALLY.

There are old Ghost Town sites in this area, all with little evidence remaining, including; Diamond City Ghost Town, and the Nahant Ghost Town. The Silver City Ghost Town is still active.

A great place to stay and ride straight to the trails,  is MYSTIC HILLS HIDEAWAY RESORT.

Water features include; Gimlet Creek, Gimlet Creek Bridge Water Crossing, Trail 142 Multiple Water Crossings, North Fork Rapid Creek, and Tillson Creek.

The Spurgeon Gulch Hiking Trailhead for Trail #40 is located here.

Old buildings worth a stop and a photo are the Historic School House, and the Gorman Cabin. Another great picture to take is the “God Bless America Flag.”

AFTER A GREAT DAY OF RIDING, RELAX AT THE WHITETAIL CREEK RESORT CREEK-SIDE PAVILLION.

This area is populated by a large number of 62″ width restrictive trails.

Connecting rides include; Custer Peak Ride, Pilot Knob Ride and Rochford/Mystic Ride.

FOR ALL YOUR UTV RENTAL NEEDS, VISIT DEADWOOD OUTDOOR RENTALS.

Parking is available at the Riley Hill Trailhead off Rochford Road, or the Merritt Trails parking.

Comments

  1. The Black Hills have great ATV trails and Forest Service roads. I have traveled most of them. Our forest service roads are either road-like or trail-like. On my Favorite Rides pages, I have highlighted the many TRAIL-LIKE Forest Service Roads.

I put this website together to help others enjoy their ATV visit to South Dakota. When I ATV out of my state, I realize how difficult it is to plan a three day ride without good information. I hope my website will be good information for you.

Over 1000 visitors a month use this website. Let us know what you think about Black Hills atving!
