Close to Rapid City with easy access off Highway 44. A nice set of trails that you will share with single-track bikes and even 4-wheel drive rock crawlers.
You will find at least one trail that will require a “turn-around” because it is just too intense for anything less than 4-wheel drive rock crawlers.
RALLY with us at the STURGIS OFFROAD RALLY.
The Norris Peak Fire Tower no longer stands but there is evidence that it was once there if you will take an off-ATV hike via the Norris Peak Fire Tower Hiking Trail, or ride to the top on Trail 6609.
Thunderhead Falls and the Minnelusa Ghost Town both need to be viewed from a distance.
Trail 6605 becomes a rock-crawler trail and may require you to turn around.
Peaks in the area include; Buzzard Roost and Norris Peak.
The Shanks Ride is named after the Shanks Gulch Mine and Quarry.

The Black Hills have great ATV trails and Forest Service roads. I have traveled most of them. Our forest service roads are either road-like or trail-like. On my Favorite Rides pages, I have highlighted the many TRAIL-LIKE Forest Service Roads and the ATV trails.
I put this website together to help others enjoy their ATV visit to South Dakota. When I ATV out of my state, I realize how difficult it is to plan a three day ride without good information. I hope my website will be good information for you.
